Why use a Kodak sequence? |
 | | A Kozak sequence is used as it slows down the rate of scanning by the ribosome and improves the chance of it recognising the start of translation at the ATG start codon. This can greatly increase the efficiency of translation. The benefit of using a Kozak sequence has been shown in one example where a 10-fold increase in product expression was observed after the addition of a Kozak sequence. For these reasons we strongly recommend using the full consensus (GCCGCCACC ATG G) in all re-expression projects. |
