Effect of Meta

When a slug consumes Meta, it reacts fairly rapidly by secreting large amounts of mucus. This reaction is strong enough to cause the slugs to exhaust their physical reserves and, at the same time, lose copious quantities of water. This ultimately leads to the collapse of the mucous cells, irreversibly damaging those in the intestine and skin, thus inevitably leading to the death of the animal regardless of the environmental conditions. Investigations have shown that the slugs do not recover at a temperature of 2°C with an adequate supply of water.

Over the past few decades, Meta has proved to be a highly efficient molluscicide for the control of harmful slugs. To ensure maximum effect, the bait must also be of good quality, and the quality of slug pellets is regularly reviewed. Customers should therefore look for the Meta quality logo on the pack when buying slug pellets.

Preconditions for an effective Meta slug pellet
  • The bait must be attractive to the slug.
  • The bait must contain a sufficient quantity of Meta.
  • The pellet size and distributed quantity (in kg) must produce a pellet density of 40–50 pellets per m2.
  • The bait must retain its shape even in very damp soil, i.e. should not disintegrate prematurely.
